Pirate week at the John Gray Centre, 11-16 February

Embrace your inner pirate and join us at the John Gray Centre, Haddington as we go hunting Pieces of Eight, telling Pirate Stories and doing Crafty Pirate Activities all week! Visit us any afternoon between 1.30 and 3.30 and check out the Star Room and the Museum to see what Piratical Shenanigans you can help us get up to. Make your own pirate figure, treasure map or pirate picture and hear a story every day at 3pm.

National Libraries Week

It's National Libraries Week, 4th - 9th February. Have a look at what's going on in some of our libraries


• Tuesday 6th February. 2.00-2.30pm Book Bug

• Thursday 6th February. 2pm I-Pad taster session

• Saturday 9th February. 11.00am - 12 noon Aberlady and Gullane Parish Church Junior Choir singing a musical medley and piano solo.


• All Week: Lennox is Lost. Lennox the library Lion is lost and needs to be back to the library before the 9th February. He (well, his picture!) will be hiding around Haddington from 4th Feb, so if you find him please return him to the library and receive a small prize.

• Tuesday 5th Feb. We are welcoming Jim and Finlay Calder, past successful Scotland Rugby players, to our Sports Reminiscences session at 10am until 12noon. Join us for an informal chat. Pie and Bovril at half time! Particularly suitable for gentlemen aged 60+

• Wednesday 6th Feb. We are having a special visitor at our regular Bookbug session! Bookbug is coming to see us. Come along at 10.30 and 11. 15am and say hello. For Birth to 4years. Free and Fun!

• Thursday 7th Feb. We are at Tesco from 10 - 12noon. Come and see us. We can read a story to your little one while you shop in store!

• Friday 8th. Sewing workshop for children aged 8 to 12 with The Bead Shop. Free, but places limited. 1pm until 2.30pm. Contact the library for a place. 01620 820680.

• Saturday 9th. National Libraries Day. Free bag with mystery book suggestion to all readers while stocks last.


• Borrow a Bundle - we'll have special bundles of books to borrow on various themes all week. Each bundle contains a little added extra - what will you find?

• Reading Stars - following the success of the Three Pigs in Scots, we'll be asking visitors to take part in a reading of The Gruffalo in Scots and will share the results on youtube on National Libraries Day

• iPad Taster Sessions: Monday at 3pm, Tuesday and Friday at 11am

• Story of the Month: Thursday at 3pm - a read aloud group for adults which will run monthly if its popular. Why should children have the monopoly on storytime?

• Knit and Natter: Friday at 3pm - crafters welcome to bring their current project and chat to like-minded people over a cup of tea. Again, if popular this will run monthly.

• Bookbug: Thursday at 10.30 and Saturday at 2.00. Saturday's session will feature a guest appearance from Lennox the Lion.

North Berwick

We are running 2 displays/ competitions: Your ideal library and Love your library. The best entry for each will receive a prize. Please consider the new library when we move back down to School Road, hopefully in June. What would you like to see there? We'd love to know!

Port Seton

• Have a go at one of our competitions this week. We have a quiz for adults; design a book jacket for 7-12 year olds, and a colouring in competition for under 5's. Why don't you enter and try and win one of our prizes?

• Special guest on Friday - Bookbug will be coming along to our session at 10.30am. All aged 4 and under, very welcome.
