The library in Wallyford is within the new primary school and is a dual purpose school/ public library. This is a unique situation for East Lothian as until now, we have had separate staffed school libraries in the secondary schools and public libraries in the community
Following the recent retirement of the Librarian at Wallyford Library and in order to prepare for the transfer to the new Library within the new Primary School, Wallyford Library will close at the end of the day on Friday 16 November 2018.
The Library will reopen in the middle of February 2019 when the new Primary School is due to open and the library will become a joint community/school library.
When it reopens in the new Primary School, the Public Library will be open for 21 hours per week at the following times:
Mon 2 – 5 pm
Tue 2 – 5 pm
Thu 2 – 7 pm
Fri 9 am – 1 pm 2 – 5 pm
Sat 10 am – 1 pm
For the interim period, the following services will be provided:
Midlothian Council will provide a Mobile Library Service within the car park at Wallyford Community Centre every second Thu am from 10.05 am to 10.45 am starting from Thursday 29 November 2018.
Bookbug sessions will be held on a Tuesday morning from Tue 20 November 2018 in Wallyford Community Centre at a time to be confirmed.
The Homework Club is likely to happen within Wallyford Primary School and will be confirmed in due course.
Any adult who is unable to use the Mobile Library, or unable to go to another Library (Musselburgh Library is the nearest), may request to use the Home Library Service (where books are delivered to you and uplifted from you by a Library volunteer).
If you have books which you need to return, you can return them to any library as happens currently or Wallyford Community Centre during this interim period.
We apologise for the inconvenience this is causing. If you have any enquiries related to this closure, please phone: 01620 827827 and ask for Library HQ – Young People’s Services or you can email:
